I don’t know how the new
Vivitar DVR 150’s quality will stack up against
the Flip, but being waterproof down to 16 feet and having infrared night vision is a promising start. At least, for amateur submarine night porn filmmakers.

In today’s Remainders: excitement! Sorta. A shot of the iPhone 4 that doesn’t really tell us anything about the iPhone 4; a Star Wars and Sea Chicken adventure; a $500 HD camcorder that doesn’t quite rev our engines; and more. Home Movies JVC’s Enverio family grew by one member today with the announcement of the GZ-HM340, another just-barely-sub-$500 HD camcorder.

Panasonic may be aggressively pushing their $21,000 3D camera for broadcasters and indie film types, but already, smaller players are applying the laws of cheap manufacturing to 3D cams. By DXG (if you’ve never heard of them, we don’t blame you), this pistol-grip pocket cam shoots in dual-lens 3D. Its 3-inch display has been said to look “almost holographic,” plus it comes with an extra 7-inch display for watching 3D content (I believe the screens use glassesless parallax barrier tech).

Take your pick as to what’s better about these new Sanyo Xacti cams: On the one hand, they’re thinner and lighter than ever. On the other hand, they got rid of that pain-in-the-ass AVCHD video format. Slashgear says the bigger Xacti, the VPC- SH1 has 1080p recording, a 35mm wide-angle lens, 30x optical zoom and takes 4 megapixel photos.

Samsung’s S-Series camcorders might just be the dandiest of the week: Besides built-in Wi-Fi with DLNA connectivity and touchscreens, Samsung’s promising digital zoom that doesn’t suck and a new video processor with crazy low-light performance. The S16’s got 64GB of internal storage plus SD card; the S15’s got 32GB plus SD; and the S10 is straight up SD. Also, the S10’s lacking Wi-Fi.

The Guardian polycarbonate waterproof case is all I need to get my Kindle on vacation to Goa. It won’t only protect your kindle against spillage, but it will make it float on the tub or the sea. And on top of that, it’s waterproof down to one meter, just in case I want to take it from the hammock to a snorkeling swim.
