The
Xbox 360
may or may not be getting that Blu-ray drive, but a new marketing strategy bundles the console with
Star Trek or
Transformers 2.
Confirmed exclusively for the UK at the moment, the packages include an Xbox Elite, an extra controller and the related movie on USB (not DVD). You may also score some extra Microsoft points.
The offer is strange, not just because of the Hollywood branding or the lack of optical media. The offer is strange because Microsoft isn’t promoting the free download of either movie through Xbox Live. USB sticks? Really? [ MCV and VideoGamer via Kotaku]

This modified version appears he Xorloser by, the Xbox 1 emulator lets you run any XBE from your Xbox 360 (this includes the Xbox 1 but also the hundreds of homebrew applications and available on Xbox 1 ).

If you’ve been holding out on buying an Xbox 360 for the last five years you live in Canada, you’ll be totally psyched to hear that the Arcade bundle of Microsoft’s console is currently on sale in for $130. The Xbox Canada site lists the price drop for both Futureshop and Best Buy, though we also found it over at Amazon Canada and GameStop Canada. Get ‘em while you can! We’ve followed up with Microsoft to clarify whether or not this is a permanent change for our Canadian friends, and, of course, if we’ll be seeing a similar sale/price drop in the US
EA completes Battlefield: Bad Company 2 server maintenance

EA assures us via Twitter that, after a rocky launch period, the Battlefield: Bad Company 2 online servers have now been stabilized. Pretty much every iteration of Bad Company 2 has seen issues arise when connecting to EA’s servers for online multiplayer, with Xbox 360 kicking some users all the way out to the Dashboard and PC users experiencing authentication issues with PunkBuster. The developer now says that those issues have been addressed, due in no small part to new servers being added over the weekend.

Mark Rein has said that Epic Games is free to do what it likes with Gears of War. “We own Gears of War. We can do what we want with it,” Rein, who is vice president of Epic, told VG247.

New research has shown that nearly a quarter of Xbox 360 owners earn less than 10 per cent of a game’s Achievements, and that only four per cent seek out every reward. EEDAR’s Jesse Divnich, speaking at GDC (reported by GamesIndustry.biz), said 27 per cent of people earn half of a game’s Achievements, but less than 10 per cent of people attain 80 per cent of the Achievements or more.

Microsoft has announced a 9th July 2010 release date for Crackdown 2.
