In today’s Remainders: tricks of all sorts. Wisair cuts some cords with their wireless display adapters; Netflix warns the FCC of potential loopholes in the Comcast/NBC merger; the inimitable BrussPup plays with our heads (and ping pong balls); and more. Air Ball I’m all for eliminating cords and wires whenever possible, so I was excited to hear that Wisair’s wireless display adapters were coming to Macs by the end of March in products from at least four OEMs
We knew that the Droid’s Android 2.1 update is on its way, but apparently we won’t be waiting long: According to Motorola’s official Facebook page, it’s “happy to relay the 2.1 upgrade to Droid will start to roll out this week.” [ Engadget ]
Android 2.1 for the Droid is making its way through the Verizon test gauntlet, and apparently inside is multitouch for the browser (like Maps 3.4), Google Goggles, and fancy news and weather widgets. Not coming over from the Nexus One ? Live backgrounds—those swishy animated wallpapers—and that new 3D grid of app icons aren’t part of the package.

The early outlook on the Nexus One —just 20,000 sold in its first week —hasn’t gotten any better. After a month on the market, Google’s moved just 80,000 phones.

Filed under: Software , Apple , iPhone Apple’s excited about mobile advertising (and it certainly seems like they’re setting up a plan for local ads), but to devs, they say, “not so much.” Apparently they’ve sent out a message that says location services should only be used to provide “beneficial information,” not targeted advertising. A small, but interesting note: Apple’s published an “App Store Tip” for developers that it’ll reject apps which “use location-based information primarily to enable mobile advertisers to deliver targeted ads based on a user’s location.” It’s not to protect you. Instead, what Mac and iPhone developer Craig Hockenberry almost certainly correctly surmises , “Looks like Apple is going to keep location-based advertising to themselves.” Let’s step back for a second
