A senior executive from Dell says that the release of Windows 7 has seen increased demand for PCs from Small to Medium Sized businesses. Prior to the release of Windows 7, they witnessed a slow down in PC sales as customers put off buying a new PC, which helps explain why Dell’s third quarter revenue was lower than expected.

With the October 22nd release of Windows 7, PC sales surged in the company.
“At the beginning of October, we saw demand decline as customers put off their decision to buy, to wait for Windows 7 to fully launch. As soon as Oct. 22 hit, both our consumer business and our SMB business had a very healthy increase in demand
Said Steve Felice, president of Dell’s business unit that’s focused on small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs).
Prior to the launch of Windows 7, Dell’s PC sales were running at only 80% of the company’s expectations. However once Windows 7 was released, they witnessed a surge in PC sales up to 110%, thanks to the new operating system. And in case your thinking this was just a once off peak in sales, your wrong. This trend seems to be continuing into November as well.
We didn’t just see that increase in the last 10 days of October, we’ve now seen three weeks of November where that demand has been pretty consistently up
Dell rely’s more on large businesses and SMB’s to make up it’s sales figures more than consumers. The likes of Hewlett Packard and Acer rely more on the consumer market. They claim that their low point was the second quarter of this year,
We’re not surprised to see the recovery at Dell come a little later than others might have reported
and from now on you shall see a rise in revenue as the company recovers, so far they are on track.
“That’s exactly what we’re seeing and I think you’ll see continued strength in Q4
So it seems all those fears of Windows 7 breaking backwards compatibility and leaving behind the beloved XP, haven’t stopped businesses from updating their machines. It’s great to see that businesses are readily adopting Windows 7, as prior to release their were speculations that not many businesses would make the switch. I guess XP mode as well as Windows 7 itself has managed to sway companies over.
This news also comes after Steve Ballmer announced that Windows 7 was selling much better than Vista
If you work for a company/business, have they made the switch to Windows 7 yet? If not what OS are you using? Let us know in the comments.

Nothing derails the excitement of playing games online with your friends quite like finding out that you don’t have a certain piece of DLC required to join their game. The USPTO recently approved a Microsoft patent application (filed way back in August 2008) for a system that would enable users to seamlessly purchase and download game add-ons from the Xbox Live Marketplace when alerted by an in-game prompt, provided the content was required for a particular online game they attempted to launch. The process would allow you to make purchases without being forced out of a game lobby you might be sharing with friends — though, really, what kind of “friends” wouldn’t warn you about your game’s newfound incompatibility before inviting you in?

Research firm Crowd Science says that almost 40% of Blackberry owners they polled are willing to ditch their device for an iPhone when next they need new hardware, and 32% said they would jump ship to a Nexus One. That leaves a dismal 28% willing to rough it with their Blackberry. “These results show that the restlessness of Blackberry users with their current brand hasn’t just been driven by the allure of iPhone,” said John Martin, CEO of Crowd Science.
