Castlevania: Rondo of Blood Gives Virtual Console A Vampire Kiss

A real classic is coming to Wii in a few hours. The original version of Castlevania: Rondo of Blood will be available as a Virtual Console download today.

And by “original” we mean “original Japanese version.” This 900 Wii Point ($9) download is an unaltered Virtual Console import. While Konami completed a translation made for the PSP remake, they didn’t use it for the Virtual Console re-release. Few Virtual Console games are updated, but there are Wii games with changes. Nintendo added picture sharing to Pokemon Snap and replaced Kawasaki jet ski ads in Wave Race 64.

PlayStation Home population at 12 million

PlayStation Home director Jack Buser kicked off Sony’s final day of GDC 2010 panels, announcing that the virtual community’s worldwide userbase now stands at 12 million. The population has grown by two million users since December 2009, and is double of what it was in June of last year.

Buser expanded on the stats, pointing out that these numbers aren’t based on one-off visits; according to Sony’s data, 85 percent of users who create a Home avatar return more than once. The average citizen, he said, spends an hour in Home each visit.

Nintendo has announced that the Hanabi Festival returns to Virtual Console starting this week, and that Castlevania: Rondo of Blood is among the games due out during its latest run.
