Businesses Starting To Embrace Windows 7 With Open Arms

Microsoft are constantly pushing and shoving businesses to try and get them to upgrade to the latest versions of their software, be it Internet Explorer or Windows 7. Why?, Well when businesses begin to adopt your product, you know you’ve done something right.

A recent study carried out shows that more than half of those who took part were planning on having some machines in their corporation running Windows 7 by the end of the year.

The survey was carried out by Dimensional Research, on 923 businesses in January, and it found that some 16 percent of businesses are already running some Windows 7, with a further 42 percent planning to start their loading their machines with it by the end of 2010.

Take Internet Explorer 9 for a Test Drive

Okay, not literally ‘cos you can’t really do that, but Microsoft today announced that you can indeed try its forthcoming IE9 browser, at least the guts of it.  They’ve made a Platform Review available to download here.

In short Microsoft want to show off the new technologies in the browser, including support for HTML5 and a rendering engine that uses the power of your PC’s graphics processor to load pages faster than ever before.

How To Easily Manage External Displays

The other day I was trying to set up a projector for a friend who was running Windows Vista on his laptop. Being so familiar with Windows 7 I thought it would be a simple straightforward procedure, but unfortunately it wasn’t. It’s only when you go back to an older OS like Vista that you realise the small subtle changes Microsoft have made in Windows 7 and your really appreciate them.

With Windows 7 connecting to and managing an external display is really quite simple. Firstly you connect your display to your laptop/PC with a HDMI cable or VGA cable etc…

Then once it’s powered on you simply use to following keyboard shortcut;

Windows key + P

You will then see this window pop up on your screen

How to Add the Run Command to the Start Menu in Windows7

The Run command became accessible through the Start menu starting with Windows 95. It also became accessible with the shortcut key. (Windows key + R). The Run command is present in Windows Vista, but it no longer appears directly on the Start menu by default in Windows7. Rather it  has been replaced in favor of the search box and a shortcut to the Run command in the Accessories sub-menu. While many of the changes in Windows7 have been accepted there are changes that make users prefer that some of the changes did not transpire. One of those changes is the disappearance of the run command. However, there is a quick way to bring it back to the start menu.
